Monthly prompt panel

Bay Area AEO builds a list of the real questions a business's customers ask AI, such as "best family dentist in San Mateo," and runs them across every major AI platform each month. The client sees how often they are mentioned, how they are described, which competitors appear and which sources the AI cites.

The question list

The method starts with a list of the questions a business's customers actually ask AI. The agency's own example is “best family dentist in San Mateo”. Questions like this carry a service, a place and often a qualifier, and they are the questions where an assistant names two or three businesses. Each city page on the agency's site shows three such questions for its market, and each niche page shows four or five for its trade.

The monthly run

The list is run across every major AI platform each month. Running the same questions on a fixed schedule makes the months comparable: a change in the answers reflects a change in what the assistants know about the business, and the client can see it happen.

What the report shows

The client sees four things for each run: how often the business is mentioned, how it is described, which competitors appear and which sources the AI cites. The last item shows where an assistant is getting its information, which tells the agency which listings and directories to work on next, and which publications.

The four measures
MeasureWhat it answers
MentionsIs the business named, and on how many questions and platforms?
DescriptionWhat does the assistant say the business does, and is it accurate?
CompetitorsWhich other businesses are named for the same question?
Cited sourcesWhich pages, listings and guides does the assistant draw on?

Real answers before and after

The method rests on a principle stated on the home page: track what AI actually says, prompt by prompt, platform by platform, and show the real answers before and after. That principle keeps the reporting tied to the outcome a business cares about, being named.

Why one question is many searches

The agency's niche pages explain why the panel uses whole customer questions. An assistant breaks a question into many smaller searches, checks different sources for each and combines the results. A question about an anxious-patient dentist who takes a particular insurance plan fans out into searches about the location, the insurance and the patient reviews.

Query fan-out explainer

AI assistants don't run one search. They break a question into many smaller searches, check different sources for each, then combine the results. The explainer walks through four steps: understand, fan out, retrieve, answer.

The issuer's reading of the method

Top Business Awards US restated the method in its third reason and set it against vanity metrics. Its selection criteria give particular weight to results tied to observable AI answers, which is the unit this method counts.
